LESSON 5

Class Title: Body Expression through Bruno’s Flight

Class Topic: Movement and Body Expression

Class Goal: To explore body movements and expressions through storytelling, helping students to understand and recreate the movements of animals and characters from the story.

Date:

EXPLORATION TIME:

Group Exploration:

Divide the class into small groups and give them cards with pictures of different animals or characters from the story (like Bruno, the bird, a frog, or a turtle). Ask each group to select a card and use their bodies to create a sequence of movements that represent how that animal or character might move. Each group will then perform their sequence for the class. The rest of the class will guess which animal or character is being portrayed.

  - Focus: How do animals move differently, and what emotions might they convey through movement?

STRUCTURING MOMENT:

- Video and Discussion:

Show a short video on body expression and movements. A video about how animals express themselves through body language would be ideal (can be found on YouTube or another platform). Afterward, discuss the types of movements shown in the video, focusing on how different animals express emotions (e.g., birds flying gracefully, frogs jumping energetically).

  - Ask students: “What emotions do you think Bruno might feel when he first tries to fly? How would that feel in your body?”

MOMENT OF EXECUTION:

- Animal Movement Relay:

Students will sit in a circle. The first student will begin by demonstrating the movement of an animal (e.g., flapping arms like a bird) and will describe the emotion or event tied to it (e.g., “I feel excited as I start to fly!”). The next student will repeat the first movement and add a new one, continuing the story of Bruno’s flight and the journey of other animals through body movements.

  - Encourage the use of sequence words: "First, I flap my wings,” "Next, I jump like a frog,” “Finally, I soar through the sky.”

  - Each student must remember the movements and add a new one, creating a physical narrative of the story.

EVALUATION MOMENT:

- Reflection and Group Discussion:

Organize students into small groups. Ask them to reflect and answer the following questions:

  - Which animal movement was your favorite and why?

  - How did the movements help tell the story?

  - Was there a movement that didn’t quite fit or should have been different? Why?

Each group will share their reflections with the class, explaining how body movement helped express the events of the story. They will also discuss how the emotions connected to the movements helped make the story clearer.
