LESSON 9
Class Title: Forest Explorers
Class Topic: Observation and Description of the Natural Environment
Class Goal: To inspire students to explore and describe elements of nature through sensory experience, inspired by Bruno’s forest adventures.
Date: 9
Vocabulary:
Nature, observe, describe, senses, texture, smell, sound, explore
EXPLORATION MOMENT:
1. Introduction to Bruno's Magical Forest:
Begin by introducing Bruno's enchanted forest, emphasizing its unique sensory qualities, such as the smell of pine, the feel of soft moss, and the sound of rustling leaves. Invite students to imagine they are explorers like Bruno, ready to discover the forest’s mysteries.
Guide students outside or provide natural materials indoors (e.g., leaves, branches, stones, flowers). Encourage them to carefully explore each item, using their senses. Ask prompting questions like, “What does it feel like?” “What sounds can you hear?” and “What do you smell?”
STRUCTURE MOMENT
1. Describing Natural Elements:
Give each student a natural item (leaf, twig, stone). Have them describe it aloud, using sensory words (e.g., “The leaf is smooth and bright green”). This helps build vocabulary while fostering a connection with nature.
2. Nature Treasure Hunt:
Organize a nature-themed treasure hunt. Ask students to find items that match specific sensory characteristics, such as “something rough,” “something soft,” or “something with a strong smell.” Once they have their items, regroup and encourage them to share descriptions with the class, exploring how each item looks, feels, and smells.
EVALUATION MOMENT
1. Descriptive Language Observation:Observe if students use sensory vocabulary effectively when describing their observations.
2. Group Discussion and Reflection:
Conclude with a discussion where students share their experiences. Encourage them to describe details using sensory language. This reinforces descriptive skills and allows students to reflect on their observations collectively.
